Electrical Fires- Important Reminders
Thursday, March 5, 2020
Joe Taylor Restoration is privileged to provide homeowners with fire damage restoration services following fires that have been caused by all kinds of sources in all kinds of scenarios. Often, however, we receive requests for fire damage restoration after electrical fires. This is in keeping with the statistics, according to the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA).
The NFPA reports that electrical failures or malfunctions have been the second leading cause of U.S. home fires in recent years (behind fires caused by unattended equipment). And, unfortunately, electrical fires also accounted for the highest share of civilian deaths (18%) and direct property damage (20%).
Based on our own experience and the above information, we thought we’d share just a few important reminders to help avoid electrical fires.
Call a qualified electrician or your landlord if you have:
Frequent problems with blowing fuses or tripping circuit breakers
A tingling feeling when you touch an electrical appliance
Discolored or warm wall outlets
A Burning or rubbery smell coming from an appliance
Flickering or dimming lights
Sparks from an outlet
It is so important that we take notice of these kinds of indicators in order to prevent damage to our property, injuries to ourselves and others, and even death. For more information, and further electrical safety tips please refer to https://www.nfpa.org
