Fire and Smoke Damage- Davie, Florida

When you think of a manufactured, or “mobile” home, many things may come to mind. Perhaps a few of them are the freedom to pick up and go, a lower cost of living, the open road, or camp fires and lawn chairs. You might think of how mobile homes are quite popular among free spirits and retirees who love to travel and want to experience more of the outdoors. What most people don’t think of, however, is just how susceptible mobile homes can be to fire and smoke damage.

According to the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), post-1976 mobile homes manufactured to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) code are no more susceptible to catching fire than houses built on site. The number-one cause of mobile home fires is electrical distribution equipment. Other significant causes include heating equipment, intentionally set fires, and cooking equipment, which are also the three leading causes of fires in dwellings generally.

However, once on fire, the issue with mobile homes is the type of structural materials involved and that smaller, more confined dwellings tend to burn faster. Thus leaving mobile homes more vulnerable to fire and smoke damage and more dangerous to their occupants.

Joe Taylor Restoration has responded to several mobile home fires over the years, one of which was a kitchen fire that took place in Davie, FL. The fire started innocently enough, with the preparation of a simple meal in a built-in oven, but it quickly spread throughout the kitchen. Fortunately, in this case, the fire was contained and did not spread to other parts of the home, like with most mobile home fires.

The biggest issue with the home in Davie was the smoke damage, ash that covered most of the contents of the mobile home, and the pungent odor of burnt plastic. Our team of technicians used specialized equipment, such as hydroxyl ion machines and air scrubbers to rid the home of the smoke and ash, as well as deodorize. Upon completion of the fire and smoke damage restoration, the mobile home was clean, refreshed, and returned to its pre-loss condition.

If you experience fire and smoke damage in your mobile home, or in a home of any kind, contact Joe Taylor Restoration right away. We will see to it that the problem is resolved and your property is restored.
